About Me:
My name is Sarah, I'm eighteen, and I am now, officially, a college freshman at DU. YaY! I love to read and write all manner of things, and I hope to be a childrens' author someday soon. I love making people laugh, with my words and my actions, above all else; I love animals and nature, which seems to be somewhat of a requirement if you live in CO; I love listening to music, all kinds, and listening to and watching my friends play their own music. I'm a drama geek and an orch. dork and have been involved in both of those things since 4th grade. I'm pretty smart, but not a prodigy of any kind, but I'm also pretty obnoxious and outgoing, so I think that kind of cancels out the “being smart” thing. Sometimes I'm so caught up in being a genius that I forget to stop being so stupid. Like just about every other kid my age I'm just trying to exist in this little patch of the ninth circle of Hell known as public high school, and am trying to find myself along the way.
I'd Like To Meet:
Anybody; I'm not really that particular about my friends so long as they can make me laugh. I am a firm believer of the notion that the whole world is my play pen and everyone and everything in it is just another one of my toys.
Music:
Anything with a decent downbeat
Movies:
Only the good ones that make you remember that the film industry used to be decent
Television:
Just about all the shows that aren't too corny or predictable, which kind of means no TV for me
Books:
Everything with a decent plot and character list
Heroes:
Anybody who's got the brass cajones to speak their mind to put a part of themselves out there, those who leave their mark (in a good way), those who are generous with themselves, their time, and their love to anyone who might need or want it, those who are patient (especially with me; it's certainly not easy and I've got a lot to live up to).
Now, to make a short story long:
The teachers that love their jobs, that care about how they influence their students, that try to impart their knowledge and don't just give up when the first difficult student (me) comes along. Teachers that can make you laugh, make you cry, make you see and feel things differently because of the things they taught you and how they taught it. I have much to thank my teachers for but most especially for taking the time to open my eyes to the beautiful things in the world when some events in my past would have kept them closed.
The people who have survived the worst and who still have something to fear, something to love, something to strive towards in bettering themselves and those they love.
The friends that have suffered endlessly in order to temper my ignorance and hot-headedness with love and reason, patience and compassion (and intelligence). I doubt to this day that they have gotten anything out of their friendship with me. They have succeeded where others have seemingly failed and have shown me that despite the tragedy and horror that exists in this world there can still exist beauty and truth and justice. They have become my reason to strive for better things in this world because despite the illusion of youth they can be better people than most adults I know. In every sense that matters they are my brothers and sisters (but I still wish I could share blood with them).
My guardians who have shown me that in spite of their anger at the things that happen in this world, and to them, that it is possible to keep your dignity and pride even when serving others. They have also taught me to never bow to those who do not deserve my subserviance, thus allowing me to keep my pride and dignity and grace when I do battle against the arrogant, braying jackasses I encounter everyday, when otherwise I might have lost it.
My sister who has cultivated in me a sense of tenacity and patience through her constant bullying. This has been very handy in difficult situations when I wanted something so desperately but that something was nearly unattainable. She has shown me that no matter what it is, if I have a goal, that I should pursue it until the end and never back down.
And Maxwell Riveurs. The greatest friend and greatest teacher I shall ever know. Even in death you teach me. Into paradise may the angels lead you.
